  Filament geotextile is a nonwoven geosynthetic made from continuous polymer filaments. The filaments are formed into a stable three-dimensional structure through manufacturing processes such as web formation and needle punching.   Unlike a geomembrane, geotextile contains interconnected voids that allow water to pass through the material while retaining soil particles to a certain degree. This makes it useful in mining drainage structures.   A typical drainage section may be arranged as: Tailings or soil → Filament geotextile → Gravel drainage layer → Drainage pipe.
